FAQ’S

  • Yes, counseling can be beneficial for anyone. There are many different reasons people seek counseling.

Sometimes it’s to address long-term mental health issues such as trauma, depression, or anxiety. Or, it’s in response to life transitions such as grief and loss, starting a new job, or changes in relationships. Othertimes people are just looking for support as they pursue their own personal exploration and growth.

Counseling is right for anyone who is interested in getting the most out of their life by creating greater self-awareness, challenging unhealthy patterns, taking responsibility, and working towards change.

  • The intake session will be spent learning important bits of your history, identifying your main concerns, and developing goals for our time together.

Individual sessions are typically weekly or bi-weekly. We will use these sessions to process and explore your experiences, emotions, and learn new skills to cope with life struggles.

You can expect to be encouraged, supported, and challenged!

  • The duration is up to you!

Some clients experience relief after just a few sessions, while others require a longer commitment in order to do deeper work.

I provide sessions via Zoom (HIPAA compliant). To join a session, simply follow the link I send to you prior to the appointment.

Just remember to be in a private location in the state of Florida or Maine.

  • Everything we talk about together will remain confidential. I am only able to share information with your written and signed permission.

I am legally obligated to break confidentiality for the following reasons:

If I have reason to believe you may seriously harm or kill yourself, or if you tell me you intend to harm or kill yourself.

If I have reason to believe you may seriously harm or kill someone else, or if you tell me you intend to harm or kill someone else.

If you inform me of a child or vulnerable/dependent adult who is being abused

If I’m ordered by a judge to do so.

It is important to remember that I can only ensure privacy on my end of our session.

I recommend that you be located in a private and confidential space.

I do not hold sessions when a client is in a public place, driving, or with other people in the room.

  • Florida Clients: Currently, I accept Aetna, Oxford, Oscar, and United Health Care.

Maine Clients: I am considered an out-of-network provider. I will provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

I have partnered with Reimbursify for you to easily submit your out-of-network health insurance claims.

Contact your insurance company directly to inquire about potential reimbursement.

I cannot guarantee reimbursement of therapy fees.

  • When you pay out of pocket you can find the best therapist for you instead of having to choose an in-network therapist that may not be the best fit.

Insurance companies require that a client be given a “diagnosis” in order to process the claim.

Mental health diagnoses can stay in your medical history and can impact your ability to obtain life or health insurance and certain jobs.

Insurance companies can dictate your treatment by limiting the number of sessions, and the length of time each session can last.

The type of treatment you receive can get decided by insurance. Insurance companies reimburse treatment types based on “medical necessity.” If your diagnosis and treatment type are not considered medically necessary your insurance could refuse to cover your treatment.

Your insurance company will have access to your entire record if they request it. This means there is an additional risk to your confidentiality and ability to maintain privacy around your medical records.

If an insurance claim is denied, you’re still responsible for the full cost of the services provided. With private pay, you don’t have to worry about unexpected bills for services that are not covered.

Teletherapy may not be covered by all insurance plans. Most plans opted to cover telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, but this may change in the future and your eligibility for teletherapy may change at any time.

Only you can decide whether private pay is the right choice for you, especially if you have insurance that covers another provider.

  • Below is a list of questions you can ask your insurance company to find out more information on your benefits:

What is my deductible and has it been met?

Is there a separate deductible for mental health?

What are my out-of-network benefits for mental health?

Is there a limited amount of covered sessions per year?

What is the allowable amount or percentage of reimbursement per session?

This will tell you what your insurance will cover and what your potential out-of-pocket cost (co-pay) will be.

    What is needed for reimbursement?

    Do I need a referral?

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your mental health care may cost. Under the No Surprises Act, Britta White Counseling must provide clients who do not have insurance (uninsured) or who will not be using insurance to pay or reimburse for services (self-pay) an estimate of the total expected costs for services. You can ask Britta White Counseling for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.

If you receive a bill at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.

If you have any questions about how this affects your care, please contact Britta White Counseling (407) 205-2835.
