FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are some answers to common questions about therapy and what it’s like to work with me. Don’t see your question answered here? Contact me and I’ll respond within 1 business day.

  • Yes, confidentiality means that what you share with your therapist stays private, and this is key to building trust. Everything you talk about in therapy is kept confidential, with a few exceptions required by law:

    • Harm to Yourself or Others: If you express serious intent to harm yourself or someone else, I’m legally obligated to take steps to ensure safety, which could include contacting emergency services or notifying someone who can help.

    • Abuse or Neglect: If you disclose current abuse or neglect of a child, elder, or dependent adult, I must report this to the authorities.

    • Court Orders: In rare cases, a court may order me to provide information as part of a legal proceeding.

Beyond these exceptions, everything stays private. I’m bound by strict ethical guidelines and will never share your information without your permission.

  • The right fit makes all the difference in your progress. It’s recommended to give your therapist two to three sessions to see if there’s a connection.

If the vibe isn’t there, it’s okay to make a switch and find someone who’s a better match.

    Ask yourself:

    • Do I feel comfortable with this therapist?

    • Can I be honest and open with them?

    • Is my therapist responsive to my concerns and questions?

    • Do I feel they truly understand my challenges?

    • Am I confident they can help?

  • Nope, my practice is 100% online. If you prefer in-person therapy, I may not be the best fit.

But if you’re unsure about online therapy, schedule a free consultation, and we’ll chat about your concerns.

Online therapy is generally as effective as in-person therapy, but it might not be the best option for:

    • Individuals in crisis

    • Those with certain diagnoses

    • Those dealing with severe mental health issues like active addiction

    • Self-harm

    • Thoughts of ending their life

  • Nope! I work with adults of all genders, sexual orientations, and cultural backgrounds.

If you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, infertility, low self-esteem, or grief, and you’re ready to make real progress, I’m here to help.

  • Online therapy gives you the freedom to fit sessions into your life without the hassle.

    • No commute, no stress! You can join sessions from your (parked) car, office, or your favorite comfy spot.

    • With self-scheduling and secure messaging, staying connected is easy. Plus, no awkward run-ins with neighbors or coworkers!

    • No travel, no childcare issues, and no time off work needed. All you need is a phone, tablet, or computer with internet, and you’re good to go.

    • I use HIPAA-compliant Zoom for sessions, so just follow the link I send before we meet.

Easy, right? Just make sure you’re in a private spot in one of the states I’m licensed in, and we’re all set!

  • $195 for a 53+ minute therapy session.

    • Quest Behavioral Health

    • United Healthcare

If you have out-of-network benefits with another provider, I can give you a superbill to submit for reimbursement.

    Maine Clients:

I’m out-of-network, but I’ll provide you with a superbill to submit for reimbursement.

I cannot guarantee reimbursement of therapy fees.

  • Paying out of pocket gives you the freedom to choose the best therapist for you—not just someone in-network.

Plus, insurance requires a mental health diagnosis to process claims, which stays in your medical record and could impact future insurance or job prospects.

Insurance can also limit your treatment, dictating the number of sessions, the length of each session, and which types of therapy are covered.

With private pay, you control your therapy—no unexpected bills or restrictions.

Only you can decide whether private pay is the right choice for you, especially if you have insurance that covers another provider.

  • Your first session is an intake assessment. I’ll ask questions about your health, habits, past experiences, and what you want to achieve in therapy.

This session helps us build a strong foundation so we can hit the ground running.

If you’re using insurance, I’ll make an initial diagnosis during this session, which may be updated later as we continue.

  • It depends! Most clients feel some relief pretty quickly, especially if they’ve been bottling things up for a while.

If you’re looking for real, lasting changes, plan to commit to three to six months. Some clients feel ready to move on after that, while others prefer ongoing support.

Many clients stick around for 12 months or more, but it’s entirely up to you.

  • It’s easy! Call or text me at (407) 205-2835, email me at britta@brittawhite.com, or schedule online.

  • I have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please do so at least 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged the full session fee.

In the case of emergencies or extenuating circumstances, reach out to discuss the possibility of a refund.
